As we get closer to Christmas I would offer this pastoral caution: Be wise in your preparation for Christmas, making sure that you keep Christ as the focus of your celebration, and to not get caught up in the materialism which competes for our soul and seeks to crowd out or even squelch our worship of the newborn king. Part of that preparation is to guard your heart (and bank account) from the commercialism that has become Christmas. Participate in opportunities of worship and celebration like our Christmas Caroling Songfest this Sunday night at 6 p.m. and our Christmas Eve services (5 p.m. or 11 p.m., whichever you prefer).
Part of the Spirit of Christmas is to give. There are many wonderful ways to help others during this season so follow how God may be prompting you to donate your money and/or time. If you didn’t have a chance to take part in our Christmas offering for Dan and Misti Lincoln [who are from Kern Park CC and currently serving as missionaries in Austria] you still can on Sunday. Just look for the special Christmas Offering Envelope and share a blessing with this special couple. Our youth and children’s groups brought an offering of $132.00 from change they have been collecting over the past 3 weeks. Praise the Lord!
